  • Cobble Beach

Georgian Villas Inc. operating as Cobble Beach Golf Resort Community contracts out its homebuilding to Berner Contracting which is a design/build custom home building operation that has specialized in constructing custom homes and cottages throughout Grey and Bruce communities since 1985.

Berner Contracting is a reputable and long standing member of the Ontario and Canadian Home Builders Associations. Berner Contracting is a proud family business owned and operated by myself, Mark Berner and my wife, Shelley Berner. Our son, Jason, and my brothers, Brad and Paul also work for Berner Contracting to uphold high standards of excellence. Beyond our family members, we are proud to say that many of our tradesmen who start with us as carpenter helpers continue to pursue the trade with the Ontario Apprenticeship Training Program and become certified general carpenters.

The complement of the family run business and its connections through a love for home building creates a highly efficient and effective organization that ensures projects have the close supervision of a Berner Contracting crew who deliver the utmost quality, craftsmanship, and workmanship. Berner Contracting is unique in that it employs our own certified tradesmen to frame, trim, insulate, and install exterior finishes such as siding, decking, soffit, and fascia while we have an excellent working relationship with all of our certified sub trades.

Berner Contracting can design your dream home to reflect what is important to you and your family. Your individual needs are our priority. Alternatively, we can build your family's home by using your plans and incorporate specifications into the design and aid in the planning of your project. A complete quotation will be presented to you for your consideration at no charge.

We thank you for taking the time to research our company and Cobble Beach and hope that as you pursue your dreams of a new family home, cottage or renovation that you will invite our family to work with yours at Cobble Beach.

Inspired by nature

As a waterside location on Georgian Bay, the city of Owen Sound gained commercial importance in the late-nineteenth century as a prosperous shipping centre, and at one time was even dubbed the "Chicago of the North." Shipping activity remained a focal point for the community until the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1959.

During Owen Sound's transition towards a tourist destination, Willis McLeese purchased a farm in the Grey County area in 1967 and immediately fell for Georgian Bay's breathtaking beauty and irresistible charm. Cobble Beach is a symbol of the family's appreciation for the area, developed with an extraordinarily light touch to preserve nature's gifts and give residents and guests an intimate connection with their surroundings.

"The visionary master plan seamlessly integrates permanent private residences with a links-style golf course and a four-season resort retreat, all built around Georgian Bay's pristine waterfront."

Another interesting historical note on the property traces back to 1815, when Captains Owen (brother to Admiral Owen after whom the Sound is named) and Bayfield surveyed Georgian Bay between Tobermory and Collingwood using the tools of the time – simple rods and chains. Amazingly, their measurements have proved accurate to within 6 inches of 1,000 feet when compared to today's GPS technology. The original two survey points are honoured on the Cobble Beach golf course by heritage sites adjacent to the 17th green and mid-way down the 18th fairway.

Paradise at the water's edge

Designed by the legendary Doug Carrick, Cobble Beach's challenging links-style golf course offers golfers a breathtaking view of Georgian Bay on every hole. The links-like character is revealed in the run of the turf, the billowing fescue rough, the pot bunkers that lurk to catch errant shots, the surrounding contours of the greens and the off-water breezes.

Over one mile of shoreline along Georgian Bay has been preserved to create a communal waterfront experience. It is unusual for a developer not to build homes along the shoreline and sell waterfront lots. But then, Cobble Beach is not your typical resort community.

"Tied for 11th Best Course in Canada by Rolex's august committee in 2010 and again in 2012, Voted Top 10 Best New Courses in the World (2007) by Travel + Leisure Golf, Ontario's Best New Course (2007) by Ontario Golf, and Ontario's Best New Course (2007) by Fairway's Magazine."

Rather, the master plan aims to protect and preserve for everyone's appreciation what has taken eons for nature to create – the astonishing rising geology of the ancient Nipissing and Algonquin shoreline ridges, and the spectacular views of Georgian Bay.

How many different ways are there to enjoy Cobble Beach? We can think of 365.

Four seasons, countless reasons

Whether the sun is shining, leaves are blowing, snow is falling or flowers are blooming, every season is a celebration at Cobble Beach. This prestigious community has been designed as a four-seasons resort, so your selection of amenities embraces the dynamic Georgian Bay environment with year-round entertainment.

Naturally, the award-winning golf course is an obvious attraction in spring, summer and fall. But with the water so close, boating, water skiing, wind surfing and fishing are also popular activities around Owen Sound. There are also endless surrounding trails for walking, hiking and biking.

"Once the Cobble Beach vision is complete, you can enjoy year-round swimming in the indoor Aquatic Centre."

Come winter, the last thing you want to do is hibernate. Opportunities to cross-country ski, snowshoe, dog-sled and ice fish are right outside your front door, and the downhill slopes of Blue Mountain and Beaver Valley are within an hour's drive. Don't forget the 12 month a year washroom/warm up "hut" located by the 12th green close to the entrance.

The biggest decisions in our master plan were made by Mother Nature.

The evolution of a lifestyle revolution

As a master-planned community, Cobble Beach features a remarkable balance between resort and residential elements. It's as though the community is part of the area's natural formation that began with the glacial remains of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay. The golf course, the resort's amenities, the outstanding water and forest views are all parts of an organic whole.

The master plan calls for a natural flow of detached homes, villas, townhomes and luxury estates crafted into pedestrian-friendly streetscapes. Even the landscaping evokes the natural setting by using native plants and trees, effortlessly blending nature and the community.

"Over time, these surrounding will become your accepted norm. But they will never cease to be exceptions."

Nature's master plan

Roof lines, site-positioning and strategically placed windows encourage residents to enjoy the great outdoors from the comfort of their home. Set amidst acres of land that majestically overlooks the water, these magnificent homes have been designed to maximize water and golf course views.

Reid's Heritage Homes is one of Ontario's largest builders, with more than 30 years of experience in creating exceptional communities.
